GIS Importer

A tool for using GIS data to create terrain maps for virtual worlds. Using this GIS data, be it from archaeological survey, publicly available map data or LIDAR scan, can be used to create virtual terrain that is accurate to its real world equivalent. This tool has been used across many of the Open Virtual World team’s reconstructions: Linlithgow Palace, St Andrews Cathedral, St Andrews Castle, Caen Township (from differential GPS survey), Mosfell Viking Longhouse and Eyemouth Fort (from 1,2,3D catch and aerial photography).
