CINE

SEE THE PAST, IMAGINE THE FUTURE

CINE is a collaborative digital heritage project between 9 partners and 10 associated partners from Norway, Iceland, Ireland and Scotland. The Lead Partner is Museum Nord. The project is funded by the Northern and Arctic Periphery Programme (ERDF).

CINE aims to transform people’s experiences of outdoor heritage sites through technology, building on the idea of “museums without walls”. New digital interfaces such as augmented reality, virtual world technology, and easy to use apps will bring the past alive, it will allow us to visualise the effects of the changing environment on heritage sites, and help us to imagine possible futures.

CINE is based on the digital heritage project Connected North, a transnational NPA pre-project which was delivered from 2015 – 2016. The four project partners, Timespan (Lead Partner),  (us) Open virtual Worlds, University of St AndrewsGunnarsstofnun and Museum Nord created a testing toolkit of a remote, real-time communication service enabling smart, digital tourism in the cultural sector. Using the latest technology, this project aimed to connect isolated communities to share their heritage digitally via virtual realities.
